About the Speaker:
Pamela Silvers teaches in the Computer Technologies Department at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Currently, she is Principal Investigator (PI) for an NSF ATE Grant entitled Skilled Workers Get Jobs 2.0: Appalachian Impact which includes seven community colleges in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
This is her second NSF ATE grant. The first grant was entitled Skilled Workers Get Jobs: Recruiting Women and Retaining ALL Students. In two years the number of female students in identified programs increased from 39 to 75 students.
Pamela has shared strategies for recruiting and retaining women in STEM programs at numerous conferences including those hosted by the North Carolina Computer Instruction Association (NCCIA), Hi-Tec, NSF ATE, Association Supporting Computer Users in Education (ASCUE), STEM Tech, American Association of Community Colleges, NCWIT, SENCER, and the North Carolina Community College System.
Pamela received her bachelor’s degree from UNC-Asheville and her Master’s degree from Western Carolina University.
